Shifting the Power Lines

There is a need for voices from the Global South, especially from the most vulnerable nations, peoples, and areas, to be given greater recognition in the critical COP 26 climate talks coming this November.

Southeast Asia is one of the frontlines of the global climate and ecological crises. Globally, it is a hotspot of extreme climate impacts, biodiversity loss, and mineral and fossil fuel extraction. It is therefore crucial to raise awareness, support, and solidarity for people’s struggles for ecological and climate justice in the subregion.

There are much lessons and solutions to be taken from the Southeast Asian experience, from asserting the right to say no to large-scale coal mines and coal power plants, to asserting national sovereignty over energy and other natural resources.

In this light, we are inviting you to the Shifting the Powerlines: Southeast Asia Exchange on Energy and Extractives on August 26, Thursday, 03:15 to 4:45 PM GMT+8, via Hopin Platform, an online solidarity exchange session to facilitate the exchange of the latest key national climate, energy, and extractives concerns and actions among Southeast Asian people’s movements.

Shifting the Power Lines is part of the upcoming Asia Solidarity Lab, a three-day virtual conference from August 26-28, 2021, connecting people-powered movements in Asia working on climate, human rights, gender, health and youth organizing towards envisioning a post-pandemic future that centers climate and social justice.
