International Day of Desaparecidos

International Day of Desaparecidos

30 August 2025
Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment joins in commemorating the International Day of the Disappeared. With grief and anger, we remember the names of those who have been subjected to state-enforced disappearances in the country. This day is a solemn reminder of the countless families and communities who continue to search for their loved ones whose lives were taken away by acts of state abduction, torture, and/or extrajudicial killings.

We stand in solidarity with the families, friends, and colleagues of the disappeared, who embody extraordinary courage as they confront injustice and demand truth, accountability, and redress. We stand in solidarity with the continuous resistance for environmental and social justice.  State-enforced disappearance is not only an assault on individuals, but also an attack on communities, democracy, human dignity, and the environment.

We condemn the continuous attacks of the Marcos Jr. administration against environmental human rights defenders. We demand the surfacing of all victims of enforced disappearances, the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators, and to uphold the rights of victims and their families. Our search for the truth shall never cease. On this International Day of the Disappeared, we recommit ourselves to the struggle for human rights, truth, and justice. We remember the disappeared not as merely numbers, but as lives and hopes unjustly taken.

We demand: Surface the disappeared. Stop the attacks against environmental defenders!
